Are Vitamins Worth It $$

Steph here, with my continuous struggle over vitamins. Am I really just peeing my money out? Or are they really doing something? A few years ago when I was having my major health issues I went on a vitamin shopping spree. Since then I've stopped taking less vitamins - but I still have a whole pile of bottles to use.

Currently I'm only taking biotin daily:
I leave it on my desk at work so I remember to take it every day
I really wanted to strengthen my hair and nails so I figured I would start taking this one daily and add in a few others for the heck of it.

Now obviously you shouldn't just take vitamins 'for the heck of it' - ideally we would all be eating our daily supply of vitamins and not need these extra supplements.

But there is only so much you can eat every day... making it important to eat a variety of foods throughout the week. So that is where vitamin supplements come in. I found a great article here where it does encourage people to use vitamin therapy to supplement their unbalanced diet. From all that I have read - it seems like a healthy, balanced diet is encouraged, but it is ok to supplement vitamins for any deficiencies you may have.

Women having babies or not quite there yet should take folic acid to prevent birth defects, older men and woman can benefit from extra vitamin C in prevent heart disease. Overall it is crucial to take a critical look at your diet - see what you can change by putting food in your mouth first, and then choose your vitamins carefully.

I'm doing to ask my doctor at my yearly physically appointment next week if there are any vitamins he recommend me taking - including the folic acid so I can have healthy babies when I grow up. Do you have any vitamin recommendations? Do you have a favorite brand - or whatever is on sale? Has taking vitamins changed something for better or for worse in your life? Please share!
